Upcoming Projects

With Wichita Transit's switch from a "flag-down" to a designated stop system of boarding, the need for adequate bus stop amenities has increased; however, of 1,190 designated stops, only 148 have seating of any kind. Bus Stop Bench Bomb draws awareness to this issue by placing temporary benches cut from plywood with a CNC router at the three most-used stops without seating on each route. Route numbers will be engraved on the benches to provide wayfinding. The project is intended to highlight the lack of amenities at stops and build support for permanent seating.

Reimagining the confusing Fountain & English intersection by blocking off the through-section, turning the island into a roundabout and creating a community gathering space.
This two-week pilot project will test whether a roundabout design is more appropriate for a neighborhood setting. Goals include: reduced traffic speed, less confusing navigation, elimination of blind conflict points, and increased community engagement.
Stay tuned for launch date and a list of programming.

Past Projects

With a surprise launch on Saturday, July 23rd, Yellowbrick Street Team used temporary, chalk-based paint to spread our pride in Wichita. The hogan symbol from the Wichita flag was painted onto manhole covers around the ICT Pop-Up Urban Park, Wichita Metro Area Chamber of Commerce, Wichita City Hall, and Old Town Square, along with Wichita-centric phrases such as "#ILoveWichita" and "Watch Wichita Win".
YST members also used stencils and a powerwasher to "reverse graffiti" on sidewalks throughout downtown and along Douglas Avenue from Seneca to Oliver. The powerwasher blew away dirt and grime to reveal various phrases and icons of Wichita.
Yellowbrick Street Team joined forces with Bike Walk Wichita to host Wichita's first Park(ing) Day, a global event transforming on street parking spaces into temporary parks for one day.
Local businesses along Douglas Avenue set up and programmed the parklets, each bringing their own unique vibe. The project engaged over 1,000 Wichitans with a different vision for our streets.
